Ahead of its annual I/O developer's conference next week, Google finally announced the Pixel Fold - its first foldable device - with a May the Fourth joke.
In a new post on Twitter, Google shared a teaser video of the Pixel Fold. And to make it timely, it accompanied the video with the text "May the Fold Be With You," in reference to today being Star Wars Day.

Outside of a first look and the name of the long-rumored foldable, Google has yet to share specifications, price, and a release date for the Pixel Fold. Though as the tweet above notes, the company plans to officially reveal the Pixel Fold on May 10, the same day Google will hold its I/O keynote.
Recently, information has started to slowly emerge regarding Google's foldable Pixel phone. Last month, CNBC reported that the foldable device would be a 5.8-inch phone that folds out into a 7.6-inch tablet. The phone is reported to feature the Tensor G2 processor, the "most durable hinge on a foldable device," and will launch in June for $1700.
Foldable phones are nothing new; however, around 2019, companies like Motorola and Huawei began announcing and releasing foldable smartphones. The company that has been the most successful in the market is Samsung with the Galaxy Z Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip — both two different approaches to foldable phones. While other competition has come and gone, like Microsoft's Surface Duo, Samsung has remained the most popular in this market.
