Meta has announced it is preparing to launch Meta Verified, a new paid subscription service like Twitter Blue that will get users a blue badge, extra impersonation protection, direct access to support, and more.
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to Facebook and Instagram to unveil Meta Verified, and he said the service will begin to roll out in Australia and New Zealand this week and that it will cost $11.99/month on web or $14.99/month on iOS.
"Good morning and new product announcement: this week we're starting to roll out Meta Verified -- a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support," Zuckerberg wrote. "This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS. We'll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon."
On Meta's official blog, the company also notes that Meta Verified will also get users "increased visibility and reach" and "exclusive features to express yourself in unique ways."
Unlike Twitter Blue, there are no plans to remove the verified status for currently verified accounts. However, Meta does note that it is "evolving the meaning of the verified badge so we can expand access to verification and more people can trust the accounts they interact with are authentic."
Twitter Blue's revamp was just one of the many changes to the social media platform since Elon Musk completed his $44 billion takeover of the company. Twitter Blue costs $8/month on the web and $11/month on iOS and Android in the US, and it gets you a blue checkmark, the ability to edit tweets, 1080p video uploads, and will in the future let you "rocket to the top of replies, mentions, and search" and "see half the ads."
