In a new tweet, the company confirmed that its controllers now support iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs with iOS 16.3, iPad OS 16.3, macOS 13.2, or tvOS 16.3 updates installed that the applicable controllers need to have the latest firmware update installed before pairing. 8BitDo confirms that only six controllers are currently compatible with these devices but noted that more controller support is on the way.
Here's a list of the first six 8BitDo controllers that now work on Apple devices:
- 8BitDo Ultimate Controller 2.4g
- 8BitDo Pro 2
- 8BitDo SN30 Pro+
- 8BitDo Pro
- 8BitDo SN30 Pro for Android
- 8Bitdo Lite SE
8BitDo's controllers previously offered compatibility with Android, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox, along with some controller support for the Analogue Pocket. The announcement that some 8BitDo controllers now work on Apple devices allows owners of these products to use them on even more devices.
Although Apple is not the biggest player in gaming, its subscription service Apple Arcade is one such way that you can now take advantage of 8BitDo's controllers. Of course, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now are also good options if you use any of your Apple devices for those services.
